Roy E. “Jumbo” Jones, Jr., 78, of Uniontown, passed away peacefully, in his home, Friday, October 11, 2024, with his beloved wife of 50 years, Mary Jane Early Jones, by his side. He was born September 22, 1946, in Uniontown, to the late Roy E. Jones and the late Dorothy Calloway Jones.
Roy was baptized at Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
He served in the U. S. Navy and was employed with Latrobe Construction and Walmart.
He served as an usher and trustee for Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
Jumbo loved to read, fish, camp, and he assisted in raising over 22 foster children.
Roy leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Mary Jane; his daughters, Sharon Jones and Lisa Jones; three stepchildren, whom he raised: Robert Curry, Theresa Curry-Nicolette, and Clark (Fee) Curry; granddaughters, whom he raised: Jessica Curry- Jones and Janai Curry; 10 grandchildren; two special nephews, Marcus and Gregory Early; special niece, Esther Green Miller; and other relatives.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 17, in the LANTZ FUNERAL HOME, INC., 297 E. Main Street, Uniontown. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, October 18, with the Rev. Marvin Harris eulogizing. Interment will immediately follow at Sylvan Heights Cemetery in Uniontown.
