Arthur L. Austin II, 90, of Masontown, passed away peacefully and into the gates of Heaven to be with his Lord on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at his home while surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Leckrone, on December 14, 1934, to his late parents, Arthur L. Austin and Pauline Seward Austin Marilla.
Arthur was affectionally known as Big Junior, Daddy Junior and Art. He was a dedicated and beloved husband, father, grandfather, godfather, brother, uncle and friend.
He attended German Township school district and was a lifelong member of Antioch Baptist Church of Edenborn, where he dedicated his life to the Lord. He served as a deacon, trustee, and the church handyman.
Art was admired and loved by all who knew him. He was a man of few words, with a heart of gold and a friend to everyone he met.
Throughout his life, Art worked in the steel mills located in Homestead; he was a certified electrician for the state of Pennsylvania; and he was one of the first African American men to work for Video Link. Art also volunteered as a fireman for Edenborn VFD station 13 for many years and he was the neighborhood “Mr. Fix it.”
Art was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Carthelia Austin, better known as Phoebe; his infant daughter, Cheryl Ann Austin; brothers, William Austin and Franklin Austin; sisters: Marietta Foster, Lucille Green and Ida Pearl Austin; and goddaughters, Thelma Bradley and Carol Harris.
Arthur is survived by his son, Arthur L. Austin III and wife, Vickie of Edenborn; daughter, Terri R. Dickerson of Cocoa, Fla.; godchildren: Elyse Wilson, Jacqueline Johnson and Alfred Jones; brother-in-law, Apostle Solomon Dotson and wife, Natalie; sisters-in-law, Mary Hairston and Rowena Austin; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all.
Friends will be received at the LANTZ FUNERAL HOME, INC., 297 E. Main Street, Uniontown, from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, The Fireman’s service will commence at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 17. Interment will immediately follow at Edenborn Cemetery.
