Vicki Halfin Brooks

Point Marion

Vicki Halfin Brooks, 73, of Point Marion, Pa., passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2025. Born July 22, 1952 in Morgantown, she was a daughter of the late Wayne and Goldie Halfin.

Vicki devoted her life to education, family and community. She served as a health and physical education teacher at Mapletown High School for more than 33 years.

A 1970 graduate of Albert Gallatin High School, she was also a proud graduate of Penn State, where she was a cheerleader for the Nittany Lions – an allegiance she carried joyfully throughout her life. She later furthered her education at West Virginia University.

Vicki worked closely with the Girls Athletic Association at Mapletown, and also taught driver’s education. She was the MADD coordinator there and deeply committed to advocacy and safety. Her dedication extended to the Williams Syndrome community, traveling across the country to learn and support her youngest son, Derek, and encouraging him in the Special Olympics was one of her greatest joys. Many in Point Marion will remember seeing her and Derek walking through town, picking up street litter out of love for their community. She was also an active, faithful member of the Point Marion United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her two dearly loved sons. She was endlessly proud of her older son, Chad, and his accomplishments after graduating from WVU. She cherished her only granddaughter, Sophie, and Sophie’s mother, Toni. Her younger son, Derek, continues to thrive in Special Olympics and enjoys his work at Price Cutter – Vicki celebrated his eagerness to learn and help others. Also surviving his a brother Richard (Cindy) Halfin and their son Brad (Jordan) Halfin; a sister, Nancy (Bruce) Cuppett and their daughter, Staci; brother-in-law Greg Bartuch and children Jennifer, Gregory and Jesse and their spouses; cousins Rita Kuis and Leah Martina and their spouses, who were frequent and loving visitors; and her best friend, Valerie Burchianti and her husband, who remained steadfastly by her side.

Her beloved sister, Janie Bartuch, passed away in 2021.

The gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, Jan. 2, 2026 in the Point Marion United Methodist Church, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A Memorial Service begins at 1 p.m. with Pastor Deb Lambert officiating.

Private interment in Fairview Cemetery, Taylortown.

Arrangements are in the care of the Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion.

Her family is extremely grateful to the doctors, nurses and staff of Torrance Hospital who lovingly cared for Vicki for the last several years. Vicki will be missed beyond measure.

In her honor, the family requests memorials be offered to ARC of Fayette County, 80 Old New Salem Road, Uniontown, PA 15401, or the Point Marion United Methodist Church, 500 Morgantown St., Point Marion, PA 15474.
