Genowefa Piorkowski, 92, of Brownsville, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Genowefa was born January 3, 1933, in Kopaczyska, Poland, a daughter of the late Stanley and Sophie Wiecek Mroz and immigrated to the United States in 1965.

She came to the United States without being able to speak English and quickly learned the language. She and her husband, Jozef raised their family in New Britain, Conn., also known as Little Poland. She moved to Brownsville more than 15 years ago to live closer to her daughters.

Genowefa loved listening and dancing to polkas, spending time at the beach, playing bingo, reading, shopping and flowers. She was an amazing cook and baker, who enjoyed making traditional Polish dishes. She was a member of The Women’s Polish National Alliance.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jozef; her daughter, Donna; and her son, Jeremy.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving children, Mitchell, Kazimir, Edward, Agnes Henderson (David), and Sabina Walters (Michael); five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; as well as her beloved cat, Sheba, who was always by her side.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m., the time of a blessing service, Thursday, January 30, in SKIRPAN FUNERAL HOME, 135 Park Street, Brownsville, PA 15417 with the Rev. Fr. Efren Ambre officiating. Visitation will continue after the servicen until 6 p.m. Genowefa will be interred next to her husband at Sacred Heart Cemetery in New Britain, Conn. at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 1.
