June 5, 2025
Elvera “Vera” Louise Borri Giovannelli, 92, of Star Junction, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 5, 2025.
She was born on March 7, 1933, in Vanderbilt, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Secondo and Gilda Giacomelli Borri.
Vera was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy A. Giovannelli, and her brother, Carl Borri.
She is survived by her two daughters: Kim Matsko and husband, Robert, Corinne Vargo and husband, Rock, both of Star Junction. Vera was the cherished grandmother of Cory Matsko of York, Taylor Kirshe and husband, Bryan of Las Vegas, NV, Rock Vargo and wife, Hannah of Springfield, VA; and Riley Vargo of Star Junction. She is also survived by her sister, Joann Pierotti, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Vera worked at the Perryopolis Auto Auction for over 50 years. She was a proud social member of the Sons and Daughters of Italy, and a parishioner at St. John’s the Baptist Church where she served on the Altar Society and volunteered for the annual church festival.
Some of the most treasured memories of Vera’s life were made in her home in Star Junction, where the family gathered. Her little yellow kitchen was the heart of it all-crammed with people, food, and laughter. Family and friends would squeeze around the table to share meals, play cards and Yahtzee. Vera was very competitive, never letting the grandkids win without a fight, and made every gathering memorable with her quick wit and competitive spirit.
She enjoyed playing bocce, euchre, and bowling with friends and family. Her laughter and joyful spirit brought people together, and her legacy of love, cooking, and tradition will live on in all who knew and loved her.
Family and friends will be received Friday, June 13, 2025, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Blair-Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Rear 305 Independence St., Perryopolis. Prayers of Transfer will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Perryopolis. Entombment will follow at Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown.
