Herbert F. Sumey, Sr., 86, of Uniontown, passed away peacefully Monday, March 10, 2025. He was born October 6, 1938, in Balsinger.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Lewis and Frances Jenkins Sumey; wife, Carol Weaver Sumey; and three sisters, Bernice Jones, Shirley Blough, and Sandra Baer.
Herbert had worked as a heavy equipment operator in the coal industry and was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who enjoyed gardening and raising flowers.
Surviving are six children, Herbert Sumey, Jr. (Holly), Rebecca Bailey (Ronald), Daniel Sumey (Vickie), and Janice Maruniak (Mark), all of Uniontown, Rodney Sumey (Melanie) of Smithfield, and Greg Sumey (Margie) of Fairchance; 15 grandchildren, and 19 great- grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, in the SHELL FUNERAL HOME, INC., 164 S. Mt. Vernon Avenue, Uniontown, where additional visitation will be held until 11 a.m., the hour of a service, Thursday, March 13, with Pastor Michael Lyons officiating. Interment will follow in Chalkhill Lutheran Cemetery.
