Herbert F. Sumey, Sr., 86, of Uniontown, passed away peacefully Monday, March 10, 2025, with loving family at his side. He was born October 6, 1938, in Balsinger.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Lewis and Frances Jenkins Sumey; his wife, Carol Weaver Sumey; and three sisters, Bernice Jones, Shirley Blough, and Sandra Baer.
Herbert had worked as a heavy equipment operator in the coal industry and was a lifelong farmer. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who enjoyed gardening and raising flowers.
Surviving Herbert are his six children, Herbert Sumey, Jr. (Holly), Rebecca Bailey (Ronald), Daniel Sumey (Vickie), and Janice Maruniak (Mark), all of Uniontown, Rodney Sumey (Melanie) of Smithfield, and Greg Sumey (Margie) of Fairchance; 15 grandchildren, and 19 great- grandchildren.
Friends were received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, in the SHELL FUNERAL HOME, INC., 164 S. Mt. Vernon Avenue, Uniontown, where visitation will continue until the 11 a.m. hour of service Thursday, March 13, with Pastor Michael Lyons officiating. Interment will follow in Chalkhill Lutheran Cemetery.
