Ronald R. “Peanuts” Diamond, Sr., of Smithfield, peacefully passed away in his home surrounded by his loving family Wednesday, January 28, 2026. Ron was 85 years old and will be deeply missed.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Earl F. Diamond and Iva J. Gower Diamond.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Joan Guthrie Diamond; and his children, Lisa (Shawn) Sova, Ronald Jr. (Elizabeth) Diamond, and Terry (Stacey) Diamond. He will be forever cherished and remembered by his 11 grandchildren, Felicia, Maria, Christina, Heather, Ronald III, Ava, Derek, Martin, Lillian, Logan and Annabelle; great-grandchildren, Gabreyela, Cliften, Addisyen, Remington, Kevin, Emily, Brantley, Ashlynn; Ronald’s siblings, James and Susan Diamond (Elizabeth Diamond deceased), Jane Ross (Orval Ross deceased), and Betsie Diamond (Rollie Clasen deceased). His memory will be cherished by many cousins, nieces and nephews, friends, local farmers and neighbors.

Ronald was born October 18, 1940 in Uniontown, and grew up and spent his entire life residing in Woodside, Fayette County.

Some of his greatest joy came from his children and grandchildren. He took an active role by creating memories on family trips, hay wagon rides, bowling, golf, croquet, football, basketball, softball, cards, board games and sharing his love of caring for farm animals. He attended and supported all his grandchildren’s activities and special events.

Ronald had many professions throughout his life. He was first a dairy farmer on his family farm; he was a PIAA official for 36 years and referee for football and basketball and umpired softball and baseball. He sold Fire & Homeowners Grange Insurance, was a Nicholson Township supervisor for six years, and was a school bus driver for over 18 years.

He loved to tinker around in the barn, on the tractor and keeping busy with farm work, and caring for his many animals. He took pride in his lifelong Lionel train collection. Ron was a 4H member earlier in life and enjoyed bowling with family and friends on the Smithfield Church Bowling League for over 45 years. He loved to travel, sight see and visit historical sites. He loved driving and never turned down a good road trip. He was an avid sports fan especially with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers, and WVU Football.

He had a very strong work ethic, family values and was well liked by everyone, mostly due to his kindness, warmth and love for life. Ron made hard work fun by always putting a positive spin on things. Ronald always made time for others and everywhere he went, he was a familiar face. His legacy will carry on forever reminding us to live a life of meaningful acts of love and service, like Christ modeled for us.

There are no words that can express how grateful and blessed we are to WVU Home Health and Hospice Care and our family, friends and neighbors who were there to support Ron.

The family will receive friends and family Sunday, February 1, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Monday, February 2, in the JOHN S. MAYKUTH JR. FUNERAL HOME, Masontown.

Burial services will not take place due to weather conditions.
