James Paul Smith, Jr., 68, of Lemont Furnace, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at his residence, with loving family by his side.
He was born January 10, 1958, in Uniontown, a son of the late James Paul Smith, Sr. and Gertrude Kay Clark Zooner.
James was a graduate of Laurel Highlands High School, Class of 1977. He was a Nursing Assistant for over 41 years at the Uniontown Hospital. Following his retirement, he enjoyed being a volunteer shuttle driver at the hospital.
In his spare time James was known by his family to be a “motorhead” who loved working on cars. Most importantly, he was a very loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be missed by his family and many friends.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of over 50 years, Catherine Johnson Smith; children: Joseph Smith of Lemont Furnace, and Hope Carlson (Scott) and James Smith, III (Trisha), both of Uniontown; seven grandchildren: Logan, Ryan, Kaiden, Mason, Brynnlee, Shaelyn (Justin) and Shane; three great-grandchildren: Violet, Kaia and Ember; and three siblings: Dianna Smith, Arthur Zooner and Robert Zooner.
The family will receive friends in the SHELL FUNERAL HOME, INC., 164 S. Mt. Vernon Avenue, Uniontown, from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Thursday, February 5. Interment will be private at a later date.
