Leisa Yvonne Cupplo Mitchell

Hopwood

Leisa Yvonne Cupplo Mitchell, 68, of Hopwood, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2026, in the comfort of her home after an extended period of declining health.

She was born July 22, 1957, in Oakland, Md., the daughter of the late Joseph Cupplo, Sr., and Elizabeth H. Umbel Cupplo of Brownfield.

In addition to her parents, Leisa was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Tina Marie; and her siblings, Joseph Cupplo, Jr., Gary R. DeWitt, Doris Jean Zigler, Nancy Bastic, Ruth Ann Hebda, Bonnie DeWitt Muse, Carol Joyce Verbus, and Jack A. Cupplo.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, John, of 53 years; her four children: Jason E. Mitchell (Monica), Justin J. Mitchell, Gia Y. Davis (Dale), and Jennifer L. Kelly (Matthew); her 10 dear grandchildren, Kole, Christian, Marina, Bailey, Alexander, Emmett, Luci, Mila, Dieter and Johanna; and her siblings, Robert DeWitt, Harry (Doris) Cupplo, Shelba Tedesco, Rocco (Veronica) Cupplo; and special sister-in-law, Karin Cupplo. She will also be held in the hearts of many nieces, nephews, and cousins alike.

A devoted mother and adoring grandmother, she found her greatest joy and comfort in the presence of family. Leisa is described as one who was “deeply human,” in that she did not strive to be perfect or hide her flaws. She was always honest and direct. She faced hardships head-on, never wavering in the love she held for her family. She chose compassion over comfort, always the caretaker, even providing for friends and family into their final moments. She had a deep sense of what is just, making room for others, where once strangers became family members. She treated love as an action, not just a feeling. To be in her presence was to be seen, and sometimes it seemed as if she knew you better than you knew yourself.

Poetic, wise, a lover of nature, a giver – Mom, Ma, Mommy, Grammy – she leaves behind a family forever shaped by her love.

A memorial of life will be held for close friends and family from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 18, with service to follow at the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, 1189 National Pike, Hopwood, PA 15445.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in Leisa’s honor, to a children’s charity. Helping children was her greatest desire – St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Operation Smile, or the Epilepsy Foundation were all causes near to her heart.
