Raymond E. Crews, Sr. passed away peacefully Thursday, June 4, 2026, following a brief illness.

Raymond was born to John H. Crews and Margaret Thomas Crews in 1948, the sixth of 10 children.

After graduation from South Union High School in 1966, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served in Scotland. Afterwards, he worked for Pennsylvania American Water Company for over 30 years.

When his children attended St. John’s R.C. Elementary and Middle School, Ray was a dedicated volunteer coach for several years in basketball, football, baseball, and soccer. He was also active in the choir at St. John’s and served as an usher.

Raymond was an avid reader of mysteries and solver of crossword puzzles and a devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He often could be heard yelling at the television during the Steeler games.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Nancy, Billy, Marcia, and Tony.

Ray is survived by his devoted wife of almost 53 years, Charmette; his son, Ray Ray (Melissa); and daughter, Caitlin; along with grandchildren, Kameron, Makayla, Lexi, and Ryleigh; siblings, Madonna, John “Butch” (Penny), Gloria, Bob (Marva Jean), and Jeff (Lisa); his in-laws, Conchita and Yolanda, Frank, Linda and Finke Family; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

His favorite title was “Pap”. He loved to travel to New Jersey to see his grandbabies and always looked forward to their countless FaceTime calls. Raymond was a devoted, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be sorely missed by many.

Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 11, in the GATES FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 136 N. Gallatin Avenue, Uniontown. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 12, in St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church. Interment will be at Sylvan Heights Cemetery. A Celebration of Life reception will follow from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at Bogey’s, 374 Duck Hollow Road, Uniontown.
