Donald E. "Butch" Glass Jr., 77, of Markleysburg, PA passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2019 at the Ravenwood Rehab Center in Hagerstown, MD. He was born July 15, 1941, a son of Donald E. and Erma H. (Jenkins) Glass of Markleysburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, Marshal and Edna (King) Jenkins and Rachel (Shoemaker) Glass; maternal aunts, Melda Gray (Harry) and Clema Frazee (Floyd); second cousins, Delores, Grover and Dawn Keslar and fraternal uncles, George and Richard Glass. He is survived by his sister, Carole Koritko, Hagerstown, MD; nephew, David Koritko (Marianne Schmidt), Hancock, MD; paternal aunt, Loraine Umbel (Donald Harsh), Reynoldsburg, OH; great nephew, Nicholas Koritko, Ft. Benning, GA and fraternal aunts, Freddie and Delores Glass. Butch resided in Markleysburg most of his life and loved everyone, especially his neighbors. He moved to his nephew's farm in Hancock, living for the past few years in a newly built cabin that was furnished especially to give him a quiet place of ease, with a rocking chair and porch. Butch loved his new home and adjusted to it by continuing to ride his bike, mowing grass with his riding tractor, feeding farm livestock and sitting on his porch in the evening watching the deer and wild turkeys graze the fields. He was often heard on the CB radio sharing stories with passing truckers and talking on the phone with his friends from Markleysburg. His favorite yearly activities included attending the Ohio State Fair with his aunt Loraine and Don and helping out with the Ohiopyle Fire Department's annual buckwheat festival, where Butch could be seen grilling sausage for everyone to enjoy. He was a regular fixture in Markleysburg, where he was liked by all. All who were blessed knowing his kind demeanor and good heart will miss listening to his stories. While Butch experienced life-long physical challenges, he now finds happiness and can do all the things he always wished he could. All who remain can find solace from the words written in the book of Isaiah: 40:31 - "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint."
Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 30, at 2 p.m. at the HUMBERT FUNERAL HOME in Confluence, PA, with Pastor Martin Stewart officiating. Interment will follow in Addison Cemetery.
