Dr. Thomas J. Ryland “Louie”

Dr. Thomas J. “Louie” Ryland, age 67, passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2018 in his home in Hopwood, Pa., surrounded by loving family and friends

He was born August 18 1951 in Uniontown, Pa., the son of the late Donald C. Ryland and his wife Lillian Marie (Durkin) Ryland.

Louie was a graduate of Laurel Highlands High School with the class 1969 and was a three-year letterman in football and track and a two-year letterman in basketball.

Louie continued his education with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering from Penn State University and later a doctorate in Chiropracting from Palmer College.

Louie was very involved and played rugby for Penn State University, Pittsburgh Rugby Club and Palmer Rugby Club. His favorite years were playing along side his twin brother Terry at Penn State.

He was an avid sports fan who especially enjoyed watching his grandsons play sports. Louie loved the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Left to cherish Louie’s memory are a daughter, Jamie Hoff and husband T. J. of Hopwood, Pa.; grandsons: Mason James Hoff, Parker Thomas Hoff and Elijah Jon Hoff; two brothers, his twin, Terry Ryland and wife Julie of State College, Pa., Douglas Ryland and wife Janet of Uniontown, Pa.; a sister, Carole Dempsey and husband Jerry of Wilmington, North Carolina. He leaves behind a longtime special friend, Donna Miller, of Hopwood, Pa., and her grandson, Devin Miller, whom he raised as a son.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIES, INC., 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, Pennsylvania where family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. when a Service celebrating Louie’s life will be held with the Rev. Andy Miles officiating.

Interment is private.

The family suggests donations may be made to the Jimmy V. Cancer Research Foundation, 14600 Weston Pkwy, Cary, NC 27513 and thank the staff of UPMC Hileman Cancer Center in Uniontown, especially Dr. Afaq Ahmad and Megan, as well as visiting nurses, especially Diane.
