Marcella Veronica Garcher Dvorchak

Marcella Veronica (Garcher) Dvorchak of Upper Middletown, Pa., died peacefully Friday, June 15, 2018 after a prolonged struggle with complications caused by a stroke.* She recently celebrated her ninetieth birthday surrounded by generations of family and friends.

Nothing was more important to her than her faith and her family, which included nine children, more than a dozen grandchildren and nearly 20 great-grand children.

As a member of the Greatest Generation, she carried on as a widow after the death of her husband, Edward Augustine Dvorchak, 41 years ago.

An accomplished cook and baker, she took great pride in her housework and her appearance, faithfully having her hair and nails done once a week. Possessed of an iron will and an unfailing sense of humor, she appreciated a good joke and had an infectious laugh.

Marcy, as she was fondly known by her family and friends, also loved to dance to Slovak music and was an avid duckpin bowler. She was also a member of the Christian Mothers Society of Saint Mary of the Nativity Roman Catholic Church in Uniontown, Pennsylvania

A coal miner’s daughter, she was born April 28, 1928, the fifth of eight children born to the late John and Sophia (Olear) Garcher of Smock, Pennsylvania.

Married on February 17, 1947, to a Navy veteran of World War II, she is survived by her nine children – Edward Jr. of Bluffton, South Carolina, Michael of Upper Middletown, Pa., Robert of Penn Hills, Pa., David at home, Denise of Fox Chapel, Pa., Mark of Upper Middletown, Pa., Anita of New Salem, Pa., Lisa of Oakmont, Pa.; and Kenneth at home. She is also survived by her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, seven of her siblings – Elizabeth (Sabolcik), Sophia (Rollence), Dorothy (Warchol), John Bernard, Ethel (Zimcosky) and Joseph, and her daughter-in-law, Sherrie A. Dvorchak. She is survived by her youngest sister, Patricia (Kilgore).

The family extends their deep appreciation to the loving owners and staff at the Haragos Personal Care Home and Amedisys Hospice Care for their compassion and support.

Friends will be received at STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 603 North Gallatin Avenue, Extension, Uniontown, Pa., on Monday, June 18, 2018 from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday June 19, from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Wednesday June 20, 2018 until 10:15 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said.

The Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church, 61 South Mount Vernon Avenue, Uniontown, Pa., with the Reverend Father Peter L. Peretti as the Celebrant.

She will be buried next to her late husband at Saint Mary (Nativity) Cemetery in Uniontown.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.

The Parish Wake Service led by the Lazarus Ministry will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. followed by The Confraternity of Christian Mothers Prayer Service.
