Norma J. Highburger, 88, of Brownsville, passed away Monday, June 10, 2019, after a long battle with Alzheimer disease. She was born January 16, 1931, to the late Helen and James D. Hennessey, formerly of Republic, and was a graduate of Redstone High School Class of 1948.

Jean enjoyed music and dancing and working in her extensive garden, but most of all, her family, for whom she made a loving and joyful home.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Harry R. Highburger; son-in-law Thomas Shanaberg; brother-in-law Thomas Johnson.

She is survived by her children, Gloria Shanaberg, William Highburger and wife Lori, and Jeri Stagesin and husband John; grandsons Travis, Joel, Eric, Ty and Craig; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Donna Johnson and Dolores Bado and husband Rudy.

On Thursday, June 13, the family of Norma Jean gathered to celebrate her life at SKIRPAN FUNERAL HOME, Brownsville. Jean was buried beside her husband at Lafayette Memorial Park. Tributes may be made in her name to Alzheimer’s Association or Amedisys Hospice. www.skirpanfuneralhome.com.
