Mount Pleasant Public Library presents scams prevention talk
Mount Pleasant Public Library will host a free lunch and learn called, “Scams: Don’t be a Victim,” on Monday, Sept. 17, at noon.
Learn steps to protect your personal information, resources for help if you or a loved one are targeted, and how to spot certain “red flags” that may indicate a fraudulent encounter.
“Education is crucial because incidents of fraud and identity theft are on the rise and scammers’ tactics are becoming so much more believable,” said program presenter James Rega II, chief investigator and owner of Rega Investigative Group, LLC. “So many scams specifically target those 50 and older.”
“Only one in 44 cases is reported, most never are, and once the fraud is committed — once you send that money, it’s gone,” he added.
Mr. Rega has served as a police lieutenant, a county detective, an instructor at the Community College of Beaver County, and is an instructor for the WCCC Police Academy. He has successfully led coalitions of local, county, state and federal law enforcement in targeted undercover investigations, as well as computer and financial crimes investigations.
Pre-registration is required at 724-547-3850 and light refreshments and beverages will be provided, thanks to the Mount Pleasant Business District Authority board of directors.
