Scamps underestimate voters

3 min read

It seems the 2003 campaign for commissioner has begun. How do I know this? The same factions that tried to remove Mr. Cavanagh from office four years ago are at it again. In the past campaign, his papers disappeared and he was forced off the primary ballot. This time, they are trying to discredit him by bringing false accusations against him.

Martin Griglak, who is Mr. Vicites’ political guru and favorite board appointee, supposedly received a fax accusing Mr. Cavanagh of misconduct towards people in the mental health and retardation programs. As a member of that board, the honorable thing to do would have been to contact the head of that department to find out if there was any truth to the accusations.

Instead, he contacted the department head after enough people were contacted to ensure its leakage. The accusations were found to be false.

Charges of unethical conduct were filed against Mr. Cavanagh and these were also found to be false. However, the stigma of these accusations always remain and this is the whole purpose of these tactics.

Mr. Cavanagh’s actions in regard to the corruption in the housing authority resulted in John Marra’s conviction. His stand against voter fraud resulted in a grand jury investigation and indictments against three people. Are the political powers afraid he may open another can of worms? Is that the reason they want him out of office?

I think these scamps underestimate the voters of this county. They think that if they create enough smoke, the people will think there is a fire and not a smokescreen. The past election proved the people are wiser than the power brokers think they are.

Sunday prayer needed

For several Sundays I have looked for the Upper Room in my Herald-Standard paper. Where is it, especially on Sunday?

I remember reading it would be moved to another page. I have no problem with that. I find it on the weekdays. But of all days, why not on Sunday?

Come on, make a little room for it. Everyone needs a boost on Sunday also.

Thank you for an answer and Happy Holidays.

Take battle to enemy

It is well past time that we begin taking the war to the terrorists. Sitting back in fear and silence is no longer an option. The terrorists have no claim to society’s civil rights.

Trained infiltrators should become part of the terrorist band wherever they exist like a virus among them. When these fanatical killers realize that they are no longer protected by zealous advocates of their rights, the impact of fear will take its effect where it belongs.

Our show of weakness and decency only inflames the terrorist whose cruelty grows bigger every day. We must take the battle to the enemy.

When they see their ranks dwindling without trace, their leadership will begin to feel an uneasiness created by the unseen backlash of a determined society.

The missile that wiped out the carload of al-Qaida in the Middle East recently is one example of meeting the terrorist threat head on. More of the same will cause the two-legged rats to return to their holes of darkness.
