Stealing from kids
Dear Editor: I am writing to inform the community of Brownsville of an outrageous incident that involves a break-in at the concession stand at the Little League Field on Water Street on May 16.
Thirty-three cases of 20-ounce bottles of pop were stolen. The local police department was called; however the Youth League members were informed (by the police) that there was nothing that they could do to help.
Upon receiving such a ridiculous response the parents and members of the Youth League began searching for the pop themselves. After receiving several tips, the state police were called in to investigate. They questioned several people (adults and children) and amazingly several of the stories matched. Finally, an eyewitness came forward to describe a black truck they saw pull up to the concession stand and the pop was loaded. After all of this the investigation had to be turned back over to the local police department. Let’s see if anything happens.
The sad part is that on May 21 another break-in occurred. This time our entire stock of food was stolen along with our George Foreman grill. Do you think these incidents could be related? This time we dealt with Officer Wardman who was at least willing to investigate and fingerprint to try and help find the culprits. Thank you Officer Wardman.
The occurrences at our fields have been going on for years and nothing has been done; however, they do seem to be getting more brave.
You thieves are not hurting any adult nor are you hurting our organization. However, you are hurting and taking from 197 children. This is totally ridiculous and despicable. You all should be ashamed of yourselves.
All we, as an organization, try to do is provide recreation for our youth. What you are doing is financially limiting what we can do for our ball players (the kids). Enough is enough.
We have a Pirate game trip planned for our children,. Leave our stands alone so that we may provide for our community’s youth.

This isn’t patriotism
Dear Editor:
I guess the loss of almost 3,000 innocent people in the World Trade Center must mean nothing to some so-called patriotic Americans.
Their only cry has been the condition at the Guantanomo Prison Camp.
Maybe the do-gooders forget we are at war with these poor misguided Muslims.
One thing for sure, these brain-dead Americans whose only worry is the care of our enemies will only bring more terrorism, death and distraught to America. But that’s OK for the bleeding heart liberals, as long as the United States does not offend, racial profile or treat our enemies as enemies.
God help us, political correctiveness will kill this country and us.

Be happy to have a job
Dear Editor:
This letter is in reference to a recent Letter to the Editor that appeared in the Herald-Standard that discussed 911 operators asking for more pay.
Frankly, I am disgusted that these individuals think they need or deserve more pay. They should be happy to have a job at all. I am not discounting the importance of 911 operators.
I am someone who is both college educated and unemployed, and seeking employment.
I would gladly take their job for minimum wage, and I would never complain a day about my pay. I would just be thankful to be employed.
