Thanks from little hero

3 min read

Dear Editor: I am writing this letter to thank Christine Haines of the Herald-Standard, Redstone Township Supervisor Larry Williams and Redstone Township Police Capt. Dennis Field. We were informed that May 22, the Herald-Standard photographer would be at our home to take a picture of my husband and my stepson for their help in saving our neighbor from a house fire.

What we thought was going to be just the photographer showing up to take Ryan and Brandon’s pictures ended up to be so much more. Mr. Williams presented Ryan with a Certificate of Merit and a gift of Play Doh with toy trucks that he hasn’t stopped playing with since he opened it. Capt. Field also gave him a $25 gift certificate to TJ Enterprises. He went there as soon as everyone left to spend what he thought was his own credit card.

We are so very grateful that they wanted to recognize Ryan and Brandon’s accomplishment. Words cannot express what this meant to me. What we thought was going to be a picture in the paper turned out to be much more that Ryan can be truly proud of for the rest of his life.

Brandon just feels that he did the right thing and didn’t want any recognition, but they made sure he knew he also did a good job.

The Metz family has also been wonderful, they purchased a savings bond for Ryan.

What wonderful people. This is going to be a great story to share with him in a few years and be able to look back at the pictures and certificate he received. Ryan is such an intelligent little boy, he knows so much for being so young. I guess he really is listening when you tell him right and wrong.

His mother and stepfather, Richelle and Jim Sawyers of Buffington, are just as proud. We are all so very lucky to have him as such an important part of our lives.

Appearance counts

Dear Editor:

As an old-time traditionalist, I want to commend the Frazier and the Geibel graduates on their appearance in photos in Herald-Standard on May 30.

To me, the Frazier and the Geibel graduates appearance shows pride in their school and in their accomplishment.

To Frazier and to Geibel go the Blue Ribbons.

Think about kids first

Dear Editor:

I work in the Uniontown area. The people are honest, friendly and hard working. Nestled in the mountains, the area is a wonderful example of nature’s beauty. Fayette County has the resources to move ahead.

Instead, the latest census shows 28 percent of our children living in poverty. Children are precious things and this is disgraceful.

Every time I read about county government in this paper, it seems all they do is fight with one another – even name-calling. I have a suggestion.

The next time a county official wants to fight with another county official, take a step back and think of all the children living in poverty before anything is said. Focus that energy on helping the kids.
