Cavanagh’s ‘true nature’
Dear Editor: I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw that article that Sean Cavanagh published against Commissioner Vicites. He has to be unstable to commit a dirty trick like that. Most people are fed up with the negative campaigning in which competing candidates try to destroy their opponent’s personal lives and careers.
There can be no rational explanation for an elected official to stoop to such a depth to target a fellow office holder and Democrat. It will take some time to assess the damage he did to the reputation of Fayette County just when we were trying so hard to improve our image to people outside of Fayette County.
After years of despair, we were building our hopes and now Commissioner Cavanagh has put our future at serious risk. Obviously his craving for publicity and showing off is more important than doing his job on a daily basis.
By contrast, Commissioner Vicites is a gentleman. He is a dedicated and compassionate county official. His morals and personal character are above reproach and he treats everyone with courtesy and respect. Above all, he maintains self-control at all times.
They say every cloud must have a silver lining. If anything good can come out of this debacle it will be that Cavanagh finally has proven his true treacherous nature.
If he isn’t kicked out of office, an informed public can obtain justice when he comes up for re-election.

Taking it to the voters
Dear Editor:
Your office has contacted me recently asking that I schedule a time and date to conduct an interview with your editorial board. Please know that I have no intention of doing so.
While I have continued to maintain a professional and courteous relationship with your reporters, including your newest Harrisburg correspondent, I see no reason to aid your efforts to discredit and defame me by participating in your kangaroo court.
I am taking my candidacy, my record and my accomplishments directly to the voters. I do not wish to have my message shot through the type of distorted prism that you used two years ago. At that meeting, you took my honest, candid responses and twisted them beyond recognition, using your own flawed interpretation of my comments to pillory me every day.
I am working harder than ever for my constituents, and will not allow you to taint my accomplishments. My staff and I diligently respond to every phone call, letter and e-mail I receive, and those folks do not need the Herald-Standard to tell them what kind of public servant I am.
