Frustrated by vandalism
Dear Editor: I am one of those unlucky people that just happened to have the word ADDAM spray painted on my garage. Due to the fact that I live in South Union, I filed a police report with the state police.
When I filed the report, I told the officer that all I wanted was to have the individuals that were responsible repaint my garage. That was back in February. Soon after, I read in the Herald-Standard that these individuals were caught on videotape by a camera at the Uniontown Hospital and shortly after that, they had been caught.
The article stated that the boys and their parents were interested in repainting and/or cleaning the properties that had been spray painted.
My husband contacted the police and was told that the city police would be handling this matter and was given the name of a detective to contact. My husband then contacted the detective and this has led to one run around after another. In the past two months, this detective has told us that he will be scheduling clean ups, will call us back, can’t handle this due to the fact we are in South Union and call the state police. The state police tell us that the detective from the city police is handling this and they will call us, etc. I have even called the mayor about all of this. All I want is to have my garage repainted. I did not put ADDAM on my garage as a fashion statement.
I raised my children to be respectful to other people and their property. Apparently, I wasted my time. Maybe I should let them go out into the world and vandalize anything they want to. As far as I can see, the only thing that will happen to them is someone will slap their hand and tell them that’s bad, but you do show artistic talent.
