Veto Pledge bill Kudos to the Herald-Standard in its opposition to a law mandating that public school children be required to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

Patriotism and the Pledge of Allegiance are fine and commendable but only if they remain voluntary; otherwise, they smack of tyranny and despotism.

The buffoons in Harrisburg should begin acting like responsible legislators and cease acting like social engineers. They certainly have their priorities distorted. Pennsylvanians need this type of legislation like Antarctica needs more cold weather.

When this nonsensical bill reaches the governor’s desk, let’s hope that he has the good sense and backbone to veto it forthwith.
