God is found in churches

3 min read

I would like to respond to your Guest Commentary by Donna Sherman, entitled, “Loving, peaceful God isn’t always found in religions or houses of worship.” The writer seems to have no use for organized religion. I agree with the caption, but God is certainly to be found in Bible-believing Christian churches. I’m sorry that she doesn’t know that.

“Religion” can mean anything, good or bad, but Christianity is a way of life. To put all churches down is a misnomer on her part since Christ established the church and many churches have done a lot of good things for mankind.

I would certainly hate to be in a world where churches were extinct. She should know that no church is perfect, since it is made up of imperfect humans and that is why it is sometimes called “a hospital for sinners.” True, after 9/11, churches were packed and then people went back to their old ways because they didn’t want to change. Don’t blame the church for people hardening their hearts.

Certainly God is a God of love, but He is a God of judgment also (read Hebrews 10:29-31). At the end of my life, I want to be able to say that I respected the establishment that Christ began. During these times, with war imminent and the world in such a turmoil, we need the church more than ever.

I’m sorry to read such a “downer” as the aforementioned article, and I pray that Ms. Sherman will have a change of heart and find a Bible-believing church that she can attend and get to know Jesus Christ, the one who is love incarnate, the only savior of the world.

Chain of life

Special thanks goes out to the many who joined the Greater Fayette County Respect Life Group on the Life Chain on Sunday, Oct. 6.

Due to a last minute change of plans we are especially grateful for your patience and cooperation. What might have been a confusing situation turned into a beautiful experience.

Our new location on Mount Vernon Avenue placed us near the St. Vincent de Paul Center and within the shadow of St. Mary’s Church. It might be said we were standing in the company of “those in high places.”

As the warm autumn sun washed over us we were indeed blessed as we watched the children on the line with us laugh and tumble in the grass. Their smiling cheerful celebration of life reminded us of the goodness of the Creator of us all.

Before bidding each other farewell we discussed our plans for the upcoming pro-life breakfast on Nov. 16. These workers for the Right to Life are weary of the cause but not defeated.
