Try courting plastics Dear Editor:
I am saddened to learn of the apparent demise of Fay-Penn Fiber. The county has heard much over the past several years regarding this potential job growth opportunity. I am not privy to the marketing strategies employed by FayPenn, but, I would like to know that they take a proactive approach to marketing the area, its capable workforce and its available industrial/commercial sites.
With this setback it is time to re-evaluate that strategy. As an executive in the plastics industry, I would like to suggest that FayPenn adopt an aggressive marketing plan to seek out opportunities with the plastics industry. Many “trade” shows are given nationally and regionally regarding this industry.
I attend many of them and always find booths representing various state and municipal interests in attracting the industry. Plastics represents a constant growth and stable industry. Rose Plastics in California, Pa., has enjoyed continued expansion since its locating in the area. This is but a small single example of the type of quality job creation that can occur.
Fayette County is located in a good geographically strategic area to service the automotive, construction, recreational and consumer product markets of the plastic industry.
Hopefully, executives at Fay Penn will begin traveling to these and other trade shows in an attempt to aggressively attract new business opportunities, rather than hanging their hats on the few companies that seem to exploit our desperate need for job growth with a less than forecasted result.
