Church disturbs neighbor’s peace
I read with great interest your articles about the Calvary Baptist Church and school in Fredericktown. What the articles didn’t say was this is located in a residential area. There are 25 homes, and of these 14 are occupied by senior citizens, many who are ill.
I have lived in this area called Newtown for 64 years, being born in a home here. It used to be a nice place to live but not any more. Our home is located directly across from this school and church, and we take the brunt of all the noise created by this place.
How would you like to hear a basketball bouncing every Sunday morning at 8:30, plus every day at recess and in the evenings when you are trying to watch TV or read a book? Or in my son’s case when he’s in bed trying to sleep as he gets up at 3 a.m. to go to work?
We’ve talked to the pastor, but it hasn’t helped.
In fact, he told me to go to my daughter’s in the country when it is too noisy. This is my home.
By the way, he doesn’t live in Newtown; he lives in the country where there is no noise.
In our church we go to pray, not to bounce balls and create havoc.
If East Bethlehem Township had the proper zoning we wouldn’t be subjected to this, and we shouldn’t be. It’s time for some updated zoning and to enforce the disturbance ordinance. I wonder how many commissioners would put up with it if it were across from their homes? None. There is something going on seven days a week. It’s time to start thinking of the neighbors.

Playing fair
I think it is a shame people have to be so childish when it comes to politics. My father-in-law, Jerry Malinsky, is running for Luzerne Township supervisor and someone has stolen at least three of his political signs.
Grow up. This is a hard workingman who just wants to try to make a difference. Politics is a dirty game, but at least give him a shot at what he is trying to do.

Missing signs
I have a friend, Jerry Malinky, running for Luzerne Township supervisor. As fast as he is putting up his signs, someone is taking them down. He is an honest and hardworking man. He knows a lot about the township. I thought this was a fair race. He has never had a criminal record. I am a very concerned voter.
