Tips on getting mail through

3 min read

It usually stands 3-feet tall. It doesn’t complain about being in freezing rain or scorching sun, and doesn’t talk, but it does help you communicate with the world. It can add beauty to your home, but in many instances is taken for granted and suffers from neglect. What is it? It’s your mailbox.

When was the last time you took a good look at your mailbox? Could it use a little sprucing up? As we look toward spring, we’ll be thinking about home improvements. As you do that, don’t neglect your mailbox.

For some local residents, the coming of spring will prompt the cleaning and painting of a fairly new mailbox.

For others it might encourage the total replacement of a trusty old mailbox that is on its “last legs.”

Regardless of the degree of attention you might wish to give your mailbox, the Postal Service offers a few tips. Make sure it can protect your mail from the weather, is neat in appearance, is conveniently located, and can be safely opened and closed by you and your letter carrier.

Give careful consideration before placing flowering plants around your mailbox because they may attract bees and other insects, creating a potential safety hazard for both you and your letter carrier. In addition, make sure your street or road number is clearly displayed.

Contact your local post office to get information concerning recommended placement of curbside or rural delivery boxes.

After you’ve given your mailbox that extra little bit of attention, remember to keep your access clear from leaves, garbage cans or snow drifts in the winter so your mail will be delivered without delay and in a safe and efficient manner.

Thanks for keeping your mailbox safe and functional.

Bush had it right

This is a sympathy letter to Tom Daschle, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry and especially CNN, the French and Germans and all the other peace weenies.

Sorry folks, Bush was right, you were wrong. We won in Iraq, and Bush will be re-elected.

You liberals, hate Bush, but I’ll bet the people of Iraq would vote for Bush.

One thing for sure, you liberals and most Democrats don’t live in the real world, and will always be on the wrong side.

Thank God, George Bush was elected president; otherwise the people of Iraq would be still under the fear of death, terror and torture, if Al Gore had been elected president. He would have wanted to negotiate, have environmental impact studies before we went to war and maybe outlaw Hummers.

Sorry liberals, America won.
