Full-time controller needed
Connie Cramer is running for the Greene County controller. I find her to be a breath of fresh air for the entire county. She certainly has a good background, is well-educated, financial experience, and has a true desire to serve the taxpayers of our county on a full-time basis. Her interest in helping senior citizens, guarding the tax monies for all taxpayers, and giving back good value to us is very impressive. Ms. Cramer desires to work on full-time basis for us. That would certainly be a positive change, as the present controller has never done so as he has a full-time business as a lawyer and cannot possibly spend the time in office we pay him for. When we pay an office holder full-time and give full-time benefits, we deserve a full-time employee.
We should strongly consider her in this very important position, as she will be the watchdog for our taxes. She serves her church as a Sunday school superintendent, board of director, Sunday school teacher and also gives back to the county as a volunteer in many capacities. These merits of Ms. Cramer speak for themselves.
Voters of Greene County take a long look at this election, it’s our money and we can spend it in a proper manner by electing the person who will serve our interest the best. We certainly need people to watch over the tax dollars in such trying times.

Apathy holds county back
The Fayette Forward meeting April 1 at the VFW in Masontown was very disheartening as only eight people attended. The turnout has been low at other Fayette Forward meetings.
These meetings were very important as they give Fayette County residents the opportunity to express their ideas about how to improve the quality of life. The meeting in Masontown was very interesting as each resident expressed the needs of the community and county.
I spoke about tourism; there is a gem out there, but it is not being utilized. There is a need for a tourism tour center, which can be located at the Uniontown Mall with a tour guide and transportation. Hotels, motels, bed and breakfast, restaurants and service stations must be part of tourism. Word of mouth goes a long way. Keeping visitors longer in the county means more money is being spent.
Others spoke about the lack of recreation, health, education and vo-tech learning skills that are needed in the county. Volunteers are needed for fire departments and other projects. Infrastructure and transportation were discussed. In attending these meeting, which I have for years, you can learn and educate yourself, listen to the people and the needs of this county.
There is a serious problem in the county. It’s apathy. Not taking the time to be involved. Pride is lacking. The county is full of junk cars, littering is everywhere, slum landlords, crime and dilapidated buildings.
Public officials where are you? None of the Masontown or German Township officials were at this meeting. Why? Are they so knowledgeable they can’t be bothered? Are those seeking our votes really concerned about their communities or are they just concerned about getting themselves elected? How can anyone serve you if they don’t know your needs? As the primary election draws near, we, the voters, should question those seeking office. Are they involved in their community or Fayette County to make the county a better place to live and work?
Apathy dominates this county. A lot must be done to change the image. Pride and growth comes from being better. Leadership leads by design, being creative and visionary. Economics will follow, but each of us must show that we are interested in making this county a better place to live.
