Supporting the troops
I would like to thank you, the Herald-Standard and the Connellsville community for their overwhelming support for Company B 1/103 Armor, Connellsville’s own National Guard Unit. Sept. 11, 2001 changed the way a nation does business and the role of the National Guard. Since 1995, then-Company A 110th Infantry has been adapting and changing to meet the needs of the Army and the state of Pennsylvania, becoming D Company 1/103d Armor and going through the very hard task of converting to Armor Company. And two short years later firing Tank Table VIII as if they were doing it all their lives.
I know the last eight months have not been easy, the anticipation and not knowing what is next for the men of now B Company, their employers and the families. So many lives are touched when a big part of the community is uplifted to perform their duty in a different country. Without the love and support of Guard members’ families the mission could not have been completed.
I would like to give my personal thanks to all the families. I know it was not easy. My mission took me to Bosnia. I wish I could have been with them in Italy. But I did keep close contact with them. I am very proud of every member of Company B. They have set high standards for themselves and live by them, distinguishing themselves on a job well done, protecting the bases of the Armed Forces in Italy.
I don’t know what is in store for us, but I do know whatever it is they will be up to the task. I would gladly serve with anyone of them, anytime, anywhere. Connellsville should be proud, as Bravo Company 1/103d Armor has served their community, state and nation well.

Medical malpractice mess
Every month or so medical malpractice insurance gets to be the topic. Tort reform is only addressed when a doctor brings this to the public’s attention. Why?
Where are our senators, representatives and public officials? It seems that they only react after the fact. Why?
Do we not deserve the best of medical care? Certainly we do. But we need the help of all citizens to become vocal and insist on tort reform for medical malpractice insurance.
For Fayette County to grow we need good industrial parks, good schools, good communities and good health services. We have been warned about losing good doctors and, yes, I do care. Do you?
Where do Roberts, Kusnic, DeWeese, Vicites, Cavanagh and Nehls stand? We need support 24-7.
