Brownsville needs to wake up
For years Brownsville has been a hostage. We are like a light bulb without wattage. Have you heard it said “build it and they will come?” Guess what. Another museum in the middle of a slum for $1.3 million. Another building was restored. How can we think of spending more money when we already look so funny? If an idea is so great and sound, invest your own money.
Don’t take this as a joke. It may cause more concern. Things are not the same everywhere. Believe me, I know.
So citizens come together. Demand the mayor hold town meetings. There’s much going on and you must have a say, because brothers and sisters, it’s we who pay.

The Dunbar royal flush
Who put Mr. Lewis Falton in charge of the Dunbar Township sewage project? Why is it he is always being handed jobs? First he was appointed tax collector, now he is in charge of the sewage.
No one ever knocked at my door and offered me a job. I would like a job inspecting the sewage tap-ins. Please someone knock on my door. Who must I know?
Who must I hang out with? Should I hang at a popular club in Connellsville with the good old boys? I wonder what it takes to become one of the gang?
The tap-in fee of $850 is too much to pay and the $38 a month is outrageous. I am a widow and there is no financial help for individuals like me who have little or no income.
It is very unfair that if I don’t pay my tap in fee, a lien will be placed on the home that my late husband who was a hard-working coal miner struggled to pay for.
Mr. Falton says that our water, which is so essential to life itself, will be denied us if we do not pay our monthly fee of $38.
What will people do who are on a fixed income and are not in good health? How will some residents decide between buying medicine or paying for sewage? If they buy the medicine, then they are in danger of having their water shut off. If they pay for the sewage, then they cannot buy their medicine.
These things should have been taken into consideration when setting the tap-in and monthly fees. More funding was needed for this project so we would not be in this position. According to Mr. Falton, the board members don’t seem to mind paying the $38 a month. They must have quite a few dollars to flush. But I guess it helps being on the board and receiving monthly compensation at every meeting you attend. Hey, that probably pays for their sewage bill for the entire year and then some. I think that’s called a “royal flush.”
