Bush must use common sense
Prior to the execution of President Bush’s promise to march U.S. troops into Baghdad, let’s take a closer look at the psychological profile of this President: George W. Bush appears to be naturally impetuous and enthusiastic, but under the self-governing influences of his “born again” Christian conversion along with his marriage to his wife, Laura Bush, he grew to possess a more-or-less normal degree of self-control, as he gradually learned to bring his will under his reason. His temperament is a popular blend of “cappuccino conservatism” stirred up with a compassionate (?) sense of national security. While in matters intellectual, we all could stand some daily reassurance he will not be party to stripping “We the people” of our constitutional protections.
Further, it is of utmost importance he develops a sovereign prudence, which adjusts his executive powers to the economic reality of global interdependence. The next war carried out by this capitalistic system will be all about the economic struggle between nations, not religion, not political ideologies, not even national honor! Today’s war machinery serves the idea of the “ends justifying the means,” which is the use of military force for the sole purpose of building up and preserving the wealth of certain nations along with the growth of personal prosperity and the longevity of their citizens, nothing else!
This is a critical juncture for America’s democracy. Mr. Bush must impress upon his followers and friends the doctrine that: In all things the “ends” are to be considered, but that administration officials must never countenance so perverted an ideal as that the “ends justify the means,” for with his growth in the spiritual light of his Christian religion there should always be a more enlightened understanding of God’s plan for the United States, and he must clearly see that the “means” in themselves, if unjust and cruel, are opposed to the very ends he holds in view.
As chief secular hierarchy over an educated, intelligent and well-informed populace, Bush must ground his application of executive decision making in common sense. Decisive action in our countries preparations to oppose Bush’s “Axis of Evil” serves as one of his greatest political weapons. Yet, he must never intend for a military/police state complex to rule or his will be felt to be the hands that burdened our nation with its galling yoke.
It would be most helpful if President Bush were to sit down, quiet his impetuous nature, bridal his enthusiasm for anything martial and pray for Divine guidance, just before taking up a closer study of the U.S. constitution. With God’s help, its true meaning and intended purposes shall become more clear to his mind.
Like most of us “baby boomers,” George W. Bush probably will not live to 300 years of age. That prospect might not even be something he aspires towards, having by faith in Jesus Christ secured his place in that unproven Christian heaven. Instead, let the 300-year birthday of the U.S. Constitution be the only target any president of a self-governing people has in his crosshairs.
For above all and everyone, the U.S. Constitution must not be allowed to be killed, maimed or mutilated by any hoi-polloi anxiety over Homeland Security. Our beloved U.S. Constitution must continue to be defended by all those heroic enough t fight for an, yes, even to die for its guiding light of liberty and justice for all.
Mr. Bush, the U.S. constitution, not any president, rules over our nation, as does God Almighty.
