No right to shoot
I am appalled at your article on Dec. 17 about the hearing for 18-year-old John Richard Sokol IV regarding the incident on Sept. 25, 2002. It is sending out the message that anyone can pick up a gun and shoot out their door for any reason. Ridiculous. My grandson was the 17-year-old boy who got shot in the arm. It could have been his heart or head, and he wouldn’t be here now. I thank God that it was his arm. The boy who shot him is going into ARD and will have no record. They have no evidence that my grandson was stealing anything.
He was at the wrong place and that’s what he is guilty of. If everybody takes your article serious, we will be back to the Wild, Wild West. God help us all. Your article said it sent a message of balance. For who? Not my grandson. No one has the right to shoot anyone. Am I wrong?
Then why are our prisons full? When do the victims in Fayette County get their justice?

Uniontown should be proud
I received a copy of your Sept. 8 feature article on Ariel Laight from my sister, JoAnne Fox, who lives in Uniontown. Since Ariel is a cousin of ours and since I live in the Chicagoland area, my husband and I of course made arrangements to see The Radio City Christmas Spectacular Show in which Ariel performed.
I simply felt that I should write to your paper to inform all of Uniontown that they indeed have a very talented, gifted little girl living there.
Not only did Ariel dance to perfection, but she was so animated and it was quite obvious that she was having the time of her life. We were quite impressed and surprised to see how often she appeared on stage. This is quite a big production at the beautiful Rosemont Theatre.
The show features the Rockettes along with many talented dancers and singers and of course Ariel. It was a wonderful way to spend some “right-before” Christmas time.
We are so glad that Ariel chose Chicago as her city to perform – and she did get to go to the American Girl Place, more than once I am told. Soon Ariel will be coming “home” – she and her family have every reason in the world to feel proud – and – so does Uniontown.
