Color in the candidate
The only requirements to become a Washington County commissioner or even a Washington County row officer is to be a registered voter in Washington County, follow the procedures to have your name placed on the ballot and receive the majority of votes. The elected positions don’t even require one to have a high school diploma for positions that pay well over $55,000 per year plus benefits. Realizing this, I was not surprised to witness coloring books spread out at our county election office with pictures of commissioners Bevec, Irey and Burns waiting to be colored.
Since I take my right to vote serious I find these coloring books located in our election office offensive.
I have to wonder if Larry Spahr, director of elections, will allow other candidates entering the commissioners’ race this year ample space to display their pictures in our election office?

Rumormonger can’t even spell
On Jan. 7, I received a county gossip sheet called “The Informer.” I assume I received this because I am an elected official and this is an election year.
For those of you who were not “lucky” enough to receive a copy, I’ll try to somewhat enlighten you. It was filled with many libelous remarks about more than a few elected officials. I’m sure I can’t go into the smut of it all in this letter.
While the content of the letter was lewd, childish, and probably untrue, the things that intrigued me the most were the incorrect spellings and grammatical faux pas. Maybe since the authors have “mastered” the Constitution, they should try to bone-up on another book – Webster’s Dictionary.

Noah’s Ark board resigns
Due to recent circumstances and in the best interest of the animals, we regret to inform you that the Board of Directors of Noah’s Ark has resigned.
The board consists of George R. Milne, Mary Jo Brownfield, Jani DiMarco, Lori Coffman, Daniel C. Shimshock, Wendy Wilson and Rev. Dr. George M. Hickok.
This action allows the full-time staff to continue to function, as they see fit for this non-profit organization.
We wish the full-time staff the best as they continue the mission of Noah’s Ark without a volunteer board.
