Loss of health service line

3 min read

Does the community know that Uniontown Hospital is closing the Fayette Healthline? The Fayette Healthline has been a wonderful community service providing the community with much-needed medical information.

The Fayette Healthline provides the community with many services such as answers to medical questions, free community health screenings which include cholesterol screenings, skin cancer screenings, mammograms, prostate screenings, blood pressure screenings at health fairs held at the Uniontown Mall or in the hospital lobby and information on obtaining specialty physicians.

Due to cutbacks, the Fayette Healthline will no longer be in operation after mid-June.

The residents of Fayette County will no longer enjoy the privilege of having a registered nurse to call and consult on health problems or have any free screenings available.

I feel the Fayette Healthline was a vital part of assisting with the health of Fayette County residents.

Fayette County you are now on your own. Maybe you should let the hospital know how you feel.

Forgotten soldiers

Daddy, Daddy, what’s that black and white flag with the letters and the man with bowed head? Well son, it’s from a war long ago. Why is he so sad? Well, he never came home and his family doesn’t know what happened to him. Why, Daddy? Good question. The men who went off to fight in Vietnam are still listed as POW or MIA from almost 30 years ago.

When a family has someone go off to war, that person is missed. When they come home there is closure. When they are injured or wounded and come home there is closure. If a person is KIA (killed in action) the body or remains are brought home, again there is closure.

But for the family of a person listed as POW (prisoner of war) or MIA (missing in action) there is no closure. Very sad.

Isn’t it about time that the United States government finds these brave men and put closure into their families? Remember, but for the grace of God, that POW or MIA could have been your dad, brother, husband, best friend. Think how you would feel if you were that family, no Christmas, no New Year, no birthdays. You get the picture.

We have had an entire generation grow up missing their loved ones. Now there is a new generation who will grow up missing their grandfather and more.

You can’t go fishing or play ball with a picture of someone. It just can’t happen.
