Governor responds
After filing my Pennsylvania Tax Forgiveness Form, I wrote Gov. Rendell telling him after completing the form that I was going to have a nervous breakdown and a few other complaints. A week later I received a call from the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue. The lady said they were reviewing my return and that I would probably receive a refund. I asked her to review the return for another household member. When I wrote the governor, this other household member said I’d never hear and that I would probably not get a refund.
If and when I do, he is going to eat the biggest crow dinner he ever saw.

A taxing collection system
I want to begin by commending your newspaper for having the courage to report on the misdeeds of some of our elected officials, even at the risk of being sued in court. The voting public would have no other way of being informed and possible voting accordingly on these people.
In January several articles written by Mr. Paul Sunyak regarding Fayette County’s excessive payments to tax collectors were printed in the Herald-Standard.
Mr. Sunyak did not address what the various school boards pay their tax collectors; however, it has to be much more because school tax can be as much as three times the amount of county tax.
In these economic times when every tax dollar is so desperately needed by all political bodies, why are we for example paying $96,000 per year to a South Union tax collector and $70,000 plus to a Wharton Township tax collector. It’s insane.
If that’s not enough they are in some cases paying part of their Social Security.
Getting back to Mr. Sunyak’s articles I would like to see them rerun for those people who may not have seen them.
I would like to see the Herald-Standard question all political candidates, county, school boards etc., where they stand on this issue.
The voting public needs to know this before the election.
