Replace tattered Old Glory

3 min read

Remember 9/11? Of course you do. The nation was covered with Old Glory; you couldn’t buy one in a store. Well, it seems the patriotism is worn off a bit. As you travel around you see worn, torn and just plain sad looking flags. That’s not the way our symbol of freedom should be.

If you have a flag in that condition, please replace it. If you see one somewhere else, please ask the owner to replace it. The old flags can be brought to the American Legion Post 301 in Connellsville or any veteran’s organization.

With our troops fighting to protect freedom all over the world, and the honoring of our heroes of previous wars, it is only right to fly a new flag.

Don Burkholder, adjutant, American Legion Post 301, Connellsville

Councilman upset with tactic

In the April 23 paper there was an article about a letter from Larry Roberts requesting the city of Uniontown investigate Tim Mahoney. As a councilmen, city resident, retired police chief and life-long friend of the Mahoney family this letter concerns me greatly. Knowing the Mahoney family for over 50 years I know that this is a good, honest, hard-working family who cares about our city. The Mahoney family has lived and worked in the city of Uniontown all of there lives and have done nothing but give their time, talents and money to this area.

I am not sure why Larry Roberts thinks he needs to make false accusations and reports wasting more of the city’s time and resources in what is a very dirty political tactic. If Larry felt this way about an honorable hard-working businessman why did he wait until Tim Mahoney ran against him for public office? It is easy to answer that question and it really upsets me that Larry Roberts has first poisoned the election process and now he is trying to poison the city with his blatant abuse of power and his dirty style of politics.

This is why I showed Tim’s brother the letter, because I will not sit by and allow Larry Roberts to single-handedly decide an election and destroy a man and his family simply because he wanted to serve the people of the 51st District.

It is without hesitation that I tell you that Tim Mahoney is an honest hard-working leader who does not deserve the lies that Larry Roberts has made against him. Tim, as member of the Uniontown City Council, I would like to apologize to you and your family.
