Unique plan for BGH
Brownsville General Hospital has struck a unique deal with the Gosai-Gandhi medical group to keep the doors open. Details of the plan will be presented today to the public during a 1:30 p.m. hearing at the Sons of Italy hall on Race Street in Brownsville. The hospital for the past several years has been financially limping along, closing units when it could no longer afford to keep operating as it has. Without any changes, the doors would most likely be shuttered during 2005.
The hospital had to do something radical to keep providing medical care for the Brownsville area as traditional remedies of belt-tightening have not worked. It has entered into an arrangement with Gosai-Gandhi in which the medical group intends to lease the hospital building and all of its services from the community board. According to BGH chief executive officer Mike Evans, patients and staff should notice few major changes.
Even with this reassurance, there are plenty of questions. Hopefully answers will be in abundance as well and that a productive dialogue is exchanged today.
