DeWeese serves public
Shame on the Herald-Standard and its editors for their unrelenting attacks on state Rep. Bill DeWeese and for their failure to appreciate and acknowledge the work he does on behalf on our region. I have subscribed to your newspaper for 50 years and I am tired of reading your negative stories about Mr. DeWeese, who happens to be my state representative and who, I think, is doing an outstanding job for the people he represents. Bill DeWeese’s exceptional public service record began more than 28 years ago and has been made better by his status as House Democratic leader. This paper knows full well how unusual it is to have a rural representative in that position and how beneficial it is for us.
From helping local residents with their vehicle registrations and driver’s licenses to securing state money for important water and sewer projects to fighting for slot machines so that property taxes can be reduced and senior citizens can stay in their home, Bill has always put our need out front.
Our entire area benefits from the hard work of Bill DeWeese. It is time for this newspaper to stop its spiteful attacks and to start recognizing his commitment to the rural people he represents.

Fat cats stuff themselves
How very interesting to read our state legislators are in dire need of yet another raise. On a rainy dreary day like today doesn’t it dampen a person’s spirit to read about such greed? Sixty-four thousand plus dollars a year, hefty pension, the best of health insurance plus $600 a month for four wheels to drive to work, and $124 just to show up.
In these hard economic times, everyone knows what’s going to happen, another tax on gas. Want to bet they will get it? What does the average worker with families do?
You can’t afford to feed and clothe children let alone any sort of fun, you know like a movie once in a while.
What do they do to deserve all this loot? I for one, do not see one thing they do that helps the working class people. Some one needs to clean house, whether it’s by broom or bust. It is a disgrace and greed galore. Reminds me of the little kid who didn’t get his way. I’ll take my ball and go home. For these fat cats maybe it’s homes. Guess that’s free also.
Hope it rains on your parade, all of you.
