Get outraged, people

2 min read

I’m baffled as to why there isn’t more public outcry regarding our pompous legislators’ latest debacle. If they needed this raise to be competitive with others, such as school superintendents, and to be able to eke out an existence in this harsh, cruel world, why are they giving this money away? Some are going to give their raise to charity or give $20 vouchers to senior citizens. The best one is to develop a scholarship for needy students, and then name the scholarship after one of their family members.

We would all love to give out scholarships in our family’s name but we wouldn’t expect to pick our neighbor’s pocket to get the money. I can’t believe the arrogance in that thought process.

A friend of mine once said that if any elected official couldn’t get the job done in four years, they weren’t worth keeping, thus don’t vote for incumbents. That may be a little severe but we do need term limits at the very least.

When an elected representative feels he can punish another elected representative for obvious personal reasons, he has been in office too long.

How can young, willing people get a chance to do public service if the entrenched professional politicians and enormous influence won’t step aside?

An exasperated and dumbfounded reader.
