Roberts criticized

4 min read

I am writing this letter in response to an article that appeared in the Herald Standard on Thursday, Nov. 10 entitled Roberts: Judge’s defeat show’s voters are paying attention. I really had a chuckle when I read Mr. Roberts remarks.

First of all, he says that turning lawmakers out of office and replacing them with new ones doesn’t make sense because of the retirement benefits and pension plan, yet Mr. Roberts doesn’t tell that it is the lawmakers like himself who has voted for these retirement benefits and pension Plans.

Then Mr. Roberts says that these lawmakers are teaching us a costly lesson, but again what he doesn’t say is that when he and other lawmakers ran for these positions they were going to do so much for the taxpayers, Yes they really did do for the taxpayers, they stuck it to the taxpayers.

Mr. Roberts goes on to say, “Seniority is everything,” Mr. Roberts also brags about his 13 years experience. He asks, “Who is to say that his replacement will be any better?”

Mr. Roberts also says, “He voted for this pay raise,” and he even goes on to say, “He is also supporting the repeal effort, because there is no way that they can justify that pay increase.”

I would like to reflect on these statements.

First of all Mr. Roberts, a little over 13 years ago you were going around begging for the people to vote for you, the people of this district gave you the chance to try to help the taxpayers here, and what have you really done other than nothing, Myself I think that a monkey could have done the job you have done, maybe even better.

Secondly, yes, you voted for this pay raise, and at the time when you voted for it, you didn’t stop to think that this pay increase could not be justified, all that you were thinking about was lining your own pockets.

Thirdly, it appears that now since the taxpayers have woke up to smell the coffee brewing, you are trying to ride that big white fence that you have continually rode for the past 13 years.

Mr. Roberts, if you don’t understand or can’t understand what I am saying, I am simply saying that it is time for you to make a decision and stand by it.

I understand that this concept may be something new for you, but I am sure that the citizens, (the taxpayers) of this district would rather hear the truth, and would appreciate a man who will at least stand by his decisions, rather than a man who will tell the people just what they want to hear and then do the opposite.

Yes, I do believe that the voters of Pennsylvania are paying attention; I believe that the voters are speaking up and saying that we are not going to put up with this kind of goings on.

I believe that the voters are finally saying, “Do the job that we elected you to do, or we will vote you out of office.”

Dangerous situation

Coming south on Route 119 from Smithfield, there is a tree which is hanging over and laying on some utility lines. After numerous calls to PennDOT, Allegheny Power, & Verizon, all parties “pass the buck” and claim that it is not their responsibility. This is a very dangerous situation and I want my fellow tax payers to be aware of what is going on because neither PennDOT, not any of the utility companies seem to care.

If the removal of these tree branches from laying across these utility lines is not the responsibility of any of the above mentioned parties, then will someone please tell me just who is responsible?

Murtha applauded

We applaud Representative Murtha’s stance on the Iraq War.

It is a courageous, patriotic effort. This illegal and immoral conflict must end.

The president and his advisors led us into this quagmire under false pretenses, they had an Iraq agenda and cooked the books to lead the public into believing there was a Saddam/911 connection and that there were weapons of mass destruction.

These leaders must be held accountable for the lies and deception. American servicemen were put in harm’s way and have died and been wounded.

The civilian casualties are legion.

Our standing in the international community has been severely damaged.

Thank you, Jack Murtha.

Impeach George Bush.
