Pumped up
For Dawson firefighters it’s a thing of beauty: a 750-gallon booster tank, roll-up doors, portable deckgun on the new Spartan stainless steel custom pumper. The last time the Dawson Volunteer Fire Department bought a pumper truck Richard Nixon was in the White House. So it’s no surprise that the department’s 32-year-old truck is little long on service and short on needed amenities for today’s firefighting world.
There are those on Dawson’s borough council who worry whether the fire department can afford the $250,000 price.
Fire chief Bob Keffer has done a satisfactory job in opening the department’s finances and showing council how it will meet this new obligation. In fact, if all goes as projected, the loan will be paid off in less than three years without relying on any taxes or grants.
Dawson will need and should receive the continued support of the community to participate in its fundraisers.
