Too many opt for wrong path
The Rev. Alex Jalso wrote an excellent article in the Jan. 7 edition concerning world devastation, referring to the tsunami that hit Southeast Asia. He gave scripture that refers to these kinds of events that Jesus said would take place. I have heard many ask, “How could God let this happen?” I believe the question should be, “How could we have let this happen?”
We are the most blessed country in the world, including Israel, and yet we continue to let the loud minority and incompetent judges take God out of our schools, government, and other public arenas. I believe that most people have good morals and are against anybody that wants to remove God from our society.
Remember a few months ago on Monday Night Football when that woman removed her towel and jumped on that guy? People became outraged and called the network and they immediately apologized and that put a stop to it. Praise God.
But, what is the difference between this and an episode of Desperate Housewives or a commercial selling a male enhancement drug? Where is the outrage? Some states legalized gay marriages and even worse, a gay priest was ordained, and what is even more outrageous, he thinks God is OK with it.
God has been sending us signs for years. We just went through one of the most powerful, tragic, devastating hurricane seasons in history. The West Coast is now going through record setting snowfall and rainfall.
The Bible says our thoughts are not God’s thoughts, so this is my opinion. I’m not speaking for God. I believe that when he created the Earth he created everything for a reason, including natural disasters. Of course he knew the tsunami was coming, and he could have stopped it. I believe this is another one of Jesus’ prophesies being fulfilled.
We cannot change what is written, but we can change our destiny. God desires a personal relationship with us more than anything, but we continue to rebuke his word. We have twisted, added, and took away from his word to make it meet our desires.
The sad part is most of us do not see anything wrong with that. Do I think that he used the tsunami to pour his wrath upon us? No. However, I do believe that he let nature take its path, just as he lets us take our path. Unfortunately, most of us take the path of destruction, like the tsunami.
I believe he is grieved over all of this, because he feels our hurt, our pain, but it’s more than that. He grieves for the souls that were lost; souls that chose to follow the wrong path. Then you may ask, why did so many children die? I simply don’t know. The verse of scripture that comes into my mine is 1 Corinthians 2:8: No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him.
When we see the glory of God, we will not ask “why,” because we will know then; he is the answer.

ACLU destroys liberty
In response to Rosemary Fike’s Jan. 14th letter concerning the American Civil Liberties Union’s oppression of Christians, I agree 110 percent. The extra 10 percent comes from a concern over their financial practices.
The U.S. Legal Code unintentionally provides a source of funding for these radical lawsuits. A section of the code, 42 USC Section 1988, exists for the sole purpose of reimbursing attorneys who file civil suits. The ACLU has perverted that section and tapped into a virtually unlimited source of funding for its supposed “civil” suits; the taxpayer’s dollar. Yes, taxpayers helped the ACLU to defeat those menacing Boy Scouts, who used Balboa State Park in San Diego cooperatively with the city for more than 50 years. Regardless of possessing a long-term lease, they were banished by the ACLU, and it cost taxpayers almost $1 million.
Two concepts must be understood before passing judgment on this issue. First, understand that nowhere in the Constitution of our nation is there any stipulation regarding the separation of church and state. The idea itself borders absurdity, considering that the First Amendment states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” We are free as Christians, Jews or Muslims to openly practice our religion.
Second, it is no coincidence that Christianity happens to represent the largest religious belief system in the United States. This country is deeply rooted in Judeo-Christian principles, a heritage that should be respected, not attacked. This country’s liberty makes it possible for us to believe what we believe without fear of persecution, whether or not we ascribe to the religion of our country’s fathers.
The ACLU has proven that its directives are destructive and harmful to individual liberty. It is a privilege to defend the freedom of Americans, and they no longer deserve that privilege.
