Nice ride: One more entitled board
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review last week reported that five of the seven members on Pennsylvania’s new gambling board are driving luxury vehicles courtesy of taxpayers. On top of $650 a month leases, reimbursement for insurance and 20.25 cents a mile while driving on board business, each board member pulls in at least $145,000 a year in salary. And a couple members haven’t even quit their day jobs. One of the board members justified the car leases this way: “We have just adopted the same rules and regulations as legislators.”
Of course, that would make it right then. Pennsylvania is one of only two states that treats its legislators to free cars. Senate members are allowed $600 a month; House members, $650.
Why shouldn’t the new gaming board – whose members are supposed to be above reproach – be permitted to wallow in the same mud hole?
We wouldn’t expect any better.
