Countdown underway: Twelve months until legislators can be shown the door
It could be that some of Pennsylvania’s legislators may be catching on to the fact that their cushy jobs might be in peril, but I’m not so sure that our local legislators are getting it. Ridiculous reactions include: From state Rep. Larry Roberts – it would be expensive to retire said legislators due to their overly generous retirement packages, secured for themselves by their own votes.
To Mr. Roberts, I say how about the voters retire the incumbents, cut the number in half and enact term limits so no one in the future can rack up absurd benefits and pensions at the voters’ expense?
State Rep. Peter J. Daley had this to say: Some legislators may be voted out because they are not hard working, but not yours truly.
Come on, Daley, how did you manage to get a degree in law and maintain a private practice, all the while “working” as a Pennsylvania legislator?
And the illustrious state Rep. H. William DeWeese – one of only two legislators to vote against rescinding the undeserved raise when the rest in the House began to see the writing on the wall. His reasoning: He didn’t want to be seen as a hypocrite! Believe me, it’s way too late to escape that label.
I would apply several other labels to these, in my opinion, poor excuses for representatives: self-serving and out of touch being only two of them.
Thank you to the Herald-Standard for continuing to keep the spotlight on this issue. We have 12 more months until we can show them the door.
