Fighting back: Rostich doesn’t go quietly in face of crime
It’s times like these – when a 81-year-old World War II veteran is allegedly assaulted and robbed by two 20-something punks and their female accomplice -that we wish for invention of a time machine. That way William G. Rostich of Footedale, who went after the cowards that police say stole his wallet from his pocket in the parking lot of a South Union Township gas station, could shave about 50 years off his life. And instead of Rostich suffering a broken wrist bone and a cut on the back of his head, we’re betting that all three alleged perpetrators would be healing up in some fashion from an assortment of broken bones of their own. After all, it reportedly took a thunk on the back of his head from the female of the group to put Rostich out of commission as he attempted to get his wallet back from one of the two males.
It’s a sad commentary on the state of today’s society when people choose to prey on the elderly. It’s doubly so when, as police allege in this case, Rostich’s credit cards were used to buy cigarettes to exchange for crack cocaine. How come these types never target a big, young, strong guy?
