Pay attention in Greene
Elections are fast approaching and it is important that we all take part in our democratic process. It is our privilege to vote and one that should not be taken lightly. It is important that the voters in the Southeastern Greene School district know what is going on and what could happen in the upcoming election. The voters of this school district made their desires and intentions felt loudly two years ago – no new taxes. If we are not careful we could slip back into the same environment that would saddle us with more taxes. These things can happen in small ways that often go unnoticed.
One such item is in the positions of school board. There is a candidate for the local school board that is running for two positions. While it is possible for someone running for two different positions to win both, they can only hold one and must turn down the other. At this point it would be the responsibility of the current board to appoint someone to this position. Do we want the school board hand picking its own members?
I urge you to remember this when you go to the polls on Nov. 8 and to make your vote count. Please don’t let someone else make your choice for you in these important matters that affect us all.
