State trooper, FCHA employee lauded for helping girl
I am writing for all the mothers of the world who have lost sight of their child even for a moment. I would like to thank Trooper Mark Kerns of the state police and Mark Madison of the Fayette County Housing Authority for the kind and considerate ways that they helped a 7-year-old girl get back home. She was trying to cross busy Route 51 and Madison yelled for her to stay where she was and ran across Route 51. He held her hand and carried her bike with the other hand and took her to safety. When Kerns showed up he was kind, considerate and patient with the little girl so as not to scare her more.
Kerns got enough information to take her home. Kerns was also considerate enough to stop after he took her home to let us know she was with her family and safe, which calmed our fears of what happened to her.
I just wanted everyone to know that there are still people in the world who put the safety of others first despite the common fear of getting involved.
