Bush great; Clinton bad
I have held my peace as long as I could but I am just tired of the media blaming President Bush for everything – the latest of which is the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina. Let’s look at the facts. Fact one: it was the Clinton Administration that cut the funding to rebuild the levies that failed causing massive flooding in New Orleans. Fact two: it was the environmental groups that fought – all the way to the Supreme Court – most, if not all, attempts at flood control in that area. Fact three: it was the mayor of New Orleans that did not evacuate those without transportation even though he had the means and opportunity.
Fact four: it was the governor of Louisiana who knew, or should have known, that federal law prohibits the president from sending National Guardsmen into a state without a specific request for them from the state. This law is to protect state sovereignty. Even if President Bush could have decoded her secret message, he could not have done more.
Fact five: it was the state – not federal – Department of Homeland Security that did not allow a fully equipped and operational Red Cross near the Superdome as people were dying therein. Enough facts? Then I will end with an opinion. I would rather have a president at home with his wife than a president in the Oval Office with an intern.
