Anti-bullying effort praised
In regards to the front-page article of Monday, Nov. 15. I joyfully applaud the Laurel Highlands Middle School and the Zachariah Connell Elementary School in their efforts to stop the Bullies. Every school, bus stop or playground usually has a bully or two. It’s about time that people are taking serious measures to stop it. Most of the time the Bullies get away with it. They find it humorous that they can make other individuals miserable. The children that are being bullied usually will miss a lot of school or even drop out because of being singled out. These kids are made fun of if they just happen to be an A student, overweight or don’t have the newest gadgets or the latest fashions.
I once knew an adult male who made fun of his wife because she knew how to play a guitar. Her face lit up like a Christmas tree when a friend of mind brought his 12-string guitar to my house and let her play it. She would never play in front of him because he would laugh at her. I’ll never forget how happy she was playing that guitar. It is very hurtful to be made fun or picked on.
So again, I applaud the two schools. Keep up the good work. Hopefully a few more schools will follow the fine example that these young boys and girls have set. I could name at least one that should consider in doing so.
