Vets need help

2 min read

I was sitting at home watching TV and reading the newspaper. They had a special on TV about our veterans. The reporter was talking about the many problems some of our veterans have after wars. As I was watching and listening I was getting angry at what I was hearing. How can our so called government treat our men and women who fought for this great nation, fought for what our flag stands for, like this? People – we have veterans that are homeless. They sleep in cars under over-pass bridges. Some can’t work because of medical problems – the rest the government ends up locking up in mental hospitals. If that’s not enough, the government cuts their medical benefits, because they need money to build bridges that go know where. How can “we,” as a country, tell another country how to live or act when we treat our own like this?

I think we have a problem, when you can come into this country illegally and get free medical, free schooling, free college education, food stamps and then cut our veterans benefits.

People, don’t tell me it is the Democrats or Republicans fault – it is our fault and our country’s fault for letting this happen. So, the next time any of you read about someone who broke our laws, came into our country illegally, getting things for free, remember, our veterans are doing without.

Let’s all change this. We don’t have to act like some of our elected officials, local and state, because the only time they know our veterans is right around election time.

So, in ending this letter, remember our veterans, go buy a flag, fly that flag, because men and women lost their lives defending it.
