Abortion ban would be good

2 min read

In her commentary on March 11, Ellen Goodman expressed her dismay at the threat to abortion that has taken place in South Dakota. Gov. Mike Rounds has signed a bill that bans all abortions in that state except those to protect the life of the woman. No exceptions. As a pro-lifer, I am ecstatic. Ellen Goodman is fearful that the day is coming when abortion will no longer be “safe and legal.” How can she call any abortion “safe” when in every abortion someone dies a painful death?

Normally, a woman has a God-given love in her heart for her unborn baby. But in the intervening years since the Supreme Court put forth its ungodly ruling making abortion legal, many women have come to believe the practice is ethical, even Constitutional, and they use it as a method of birth control.

As humanist judges, who are accountable to no one, have separated themselves from the law of God, everything is relative. In their eyes, since they do not believe in God, there is no right or wrong and they have imposed their views on the total population no matter what the total population wants. These activist judges have become false gods, placing their own laws above God’s.

Biologists agree that life absolutely begins at conception. Since statistics show that most abortions are for social reasons, the question now, it seems, is determining when the value of that life begins to outweigh the happiness of the mother. The mother, “for her own selfish happiness,” can take her baby’s life by choice, by law. Think about it!

The Bible tells us that “God hates the shedding of innocent blood,” and that describes abortion. How can we disagree with Him? And how can a nation prosper when its people have rejected His laws?

The situation in South Dakota brings new hope. Let’s pray that this step in the fight against abortion is successful and that with the new conservative judges on the Supreme Court, our country can someday be restored to its former greatness. We need God back on the throne in America. To quote our first president, “It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible.”
